GlowCore Shines at World-Famous Eatery
Yoken's Restaurant serves thousands of meals every day to
locals and tourists who visit the New England landmark. But with each passing
tourist, it became more and more obvious to management that the old, 750,000 Btu
oil-fired, cast-iron boiler wasn't doing the job.
So a call went out to GlowCore Heating & Cooling Products,
which tried to convince Yoken's owners that two high-efficiency GlowCore GB160's (89%
AFUE) could replace all that aging, inefficient capacity. But management wasn't
buying. They insisted it would take at least three GlowCore boilers. So three
GB160's were installed.
As time went on, however, it became apparent that Yoken's had
excess capacity. One boiler was being used consistently to heat the hot water
baseboard system in the kitchen, foyer and several dining rooms. One came on a few
hours a day to supplement the first. And one never came on.
So domestic hot water was added to the system to utilize
the
third GB160. Interconnected with two Glowcore WT Series, commercial size water
heaters, this third boiler now provides the hot water demands of Yoken's huge
kitchen. Demands include 180º F rinse water for up to 3,500 meals served per day
during the peak vacation season.
The GlowCore system not only increased efficiency, reducing fuel
costs over the old system by 50% each of the past two years, but increased the comfort
level for Yoken's thousands of daily customers - the task originally set out to be
accomplished - and, as a bonus, added the huge hot water load to the system, further
decreasing operating costs.
"I even picked up a new storage room'" says Yoken's
manager, Harry McCloud. "In the basement where the old boiler was I can store
items for the gift shop. The GlowCore boilers hang right on the wall and leave me
plenty of room to operate."
