Electric Heat Pump Conversion to UniCore
School teacher Brent Rogers, Hampton, New Hampshire, knows
first-hand the advantages of converting from electric to gas heat. Thanks to
GlowCore A.C., Inc. and the GB UniCore heating system.
Mr. Rogers replaced the electric heat pump/resistance back-up
system in his 1600 square foot home with a GB090, 89% AFUE gas boiler UniCore system
interconnected to a 30-gallon WT Series water heater. This integrated system
replaced two high cost electric heat sources - the heat pump with resistance back-up and
an electric water tank - with one high efficiency gas burner.
Rogers' pre-conversion January 1987 electric bill hit a high
level mark of $500. The post-conversion January 1988 utility bills ran a combined
$150 for gas and electricity.
The GlowCore boiler is split into five zones, two of which are
presently not being utilized, awaiting future additions.
The three zones presently being operated are: 1) Hydronic coil
for previously used heat pump, which provides forced-air heat throughout the house.
The outside condenser has been kept intact for air conditioning only; 2) Baseboard
radiation heat for the large hot tub room; 3) Domestic hot water, tied-in with WT-30 water
heater.
"I think the GlowCore system is great," says
Brent. "I put a lot of research into the system before I converted, and the
results have been just fantastic."
A one month, $350 energy cost savings is very strong argument for
converting to gas . . . and GlowCore. And ammunition to help you convert your oil
and electric neighborhoods, just as it's been done in Mr. Rogers'.
